The Same Boat was originally founded in October 2004
by adoptee Virginia McLean. Searching for
and reunion with her birth parents caused her to reassess what it
was to be adopted and to talk to adoptees, adoptive parents, birth
parents, social workers and experts to try and gain an understanding.
Wanting to do something with other people in the same boat she started
this website as a way of people sharing their experiences, supporting
